Our elimination on the Miramar Peninsula is complete and we are underway with the next phase of our project: Island Bay to CBD.
Phase 2 – Island Bay to CBDWhat’s involved? This second phase is 1300 ha and involves 14 suburbs from Kilbirnie around to Ōwhiro Bay and up through to the CBD. Moving from Miramar into Phase 2, the complexity and diversity only increases – it is an area that is home to approximately 60,000 people living at a greater urban density, and we will be working with Wellington Zoo, Government House, Massey University and Wellington Regional Hospital.
How is Phase 2 progressing? Having gathered permission from approximately 7,500 households to have a trap or bait station in their backyard, we are now installing and servicing devices in a suburb-by-suburb approach. We started by pushing out from Miramar into Rongotai, Kilbirnie and Lyall Bay to help reduce the pressure of reincursiosn into Miramar, and all the while we are constantly refining our operational approach. If you’re keen for your property to be included in our network, you can sign up via the permission form below.
We are also working alongside 14 community trapping groups in this area who are already mobilising the movement and creating a safer habitat for our wildlife across the city. You can also find out about our volunteer-led Phase 2 buffer project here.
