Mission "Impossible" with youtuber Tom Scott
Tom Scott is a science and technology youtuber whose channel features educational videos across a range of topics and locations around the world – and now our project can be added to that list!
The common wisdom is that, once an invasive species is truly established it can’t be eradicated, but we had the opportunity to explain why we think we can do just that.
The video features Emma, one of our operational specialists, who shared with Tom some of the key tools we use as part of our eradication network, including devices like the DOC200 as well as monitoring instruments, such as chewcards and detex.
It was also an opportunity to share with Tom’s 5.8 million subscribers about the wider Predator Free 2050 kaupapa which must’ve really hit home for the influencer, who closed out the vidoe with the comment “Kaitiakitanga, it seems to be part of New Zealand’s identity in a way that I don’t think I’ve seen in any oither country I’ve been to. If anyone can pull this [PF2050] off, it’s going to be New Zealand”.
The video currently has a phenomenal 4 million views and at it’s peak, reach #17 on youtube trending! To be able to share about our mahi on such a large scale to an international audience, was a true privilege.
