Our Rats vs Wellington pop-up art campaign is live!
We are calling for interest from local artists, residents, trappers and students to participate in our Rats v Wellington community art project.
In these crazy times we are keen to bring some surprise and joy to the people of Wellington as we encourage residents to sign up for our phase 2 eradication project. We’re supporting the creation temporary artworks across Wellington over the next few months using the theme Rats v Wellington as inspiration. We are open to ideas on what form your art takes e.g. chalk art, tape art, pop up art, projections… but it needs to be temporary unless permission is given from a landowner. You come up with the concept, and we’ll cover the cost of materials.
So far we’ve had two fantastic pop-up art works:
With Rachel and Alastair, from our team, as their muse, Struan and Erica of Tape Art New Zealand created this work in their typically whimsical manner with a vignette proclaiming “Toodle-oo!” to the Last Rat in Wellington. This artwork was up for 24hrs on the side of a toilet block on Island Bay’s Medway St.
Local artists Nadine and Clare then created this chalk art at Lyall Bay beach using hand made stencils. The matching rat hats added a fun textile twist to their creation! They followed it up with a second installment along Balaena Bay road a month later.
