This project is a world first, being delivered across five phases in Aotearoa New Zealand’s capital city where 212,000 people live.
We are creating the world’s first predator free capital city where our native species and communities thrive. As we remove rats, possums, stoats and weasels, we’re seeing our bird life, lizards, insects, invertebrates, bounce back. The goal is to do this across the entire Wellington city and the surrounding area, a total area of 30,000 hectares – and we’re well on the way!
Phase 1 on Miramar Peninsula has been successfully completed and now our team is in Phase 2 ‘Island Bay to CBD’. This means more land, more residents, more traps, and more complexity. But we have the extraordinary benefits of three years of research, testing and success.
