Central Park is part of the Town Belt, and is one of Wellington City’s oldest public parks.
With the Moturoa stream running through it, the park extends for 13 hectares from the edge of the CBD and Te Aro Valley up to the suburb of Brooklyn. It contains mature stands of native and exotic trees, walking tracks, gardens and picnic areas, plus a playground with the three best flying foxes in the city.
Bellbirds are the trapping group in the park, checking three lines totalling about 40 traps. We have a roster of volunteers to check these – this takes about two hours max once a month.
We also welcome new volunteers to help with pest control in the Park. Contact Lynne White if you would like to help with trapping or weeding.
