Places for Penguins coordinate this project to reverse the population decline of little penguins in Wellington. We are planting penguin-friendly coastal plants around the Miramar coast, monitoring nest boxes and educating people about threats to little penguins/kororā like car strikes, dog attacks and marine pollution. One of our main activity is predator control through monitoring a number of trap lines and bait stations in areas on the Miramar Peninsula and South Coast.
We are working in coastal northern Miramar to Seatoun; Shelley Bay; Carter Park; Strathmore Park; coastline from Breaker Bay around to Moa Point, including Rangitatau Reserve and Ataturk Park.
