Mt Victoria Vermin trappers are a group of local residents keen to develop a closer connection with their local Town Belt Reserve and help look after it and the local wildlife by controlling non-native predators of native birds: rats, mice, weasels, and hedgehogs. We are seeing the return of kākā, kārearea, ruru and many other birds to join the tūī, pīwaiwaka and riroriro.
Many group members also are involved with restoration planting projects throughout the wider trapping project area - some group members have been planting trees in the area for some time. The group is also monitoring pest density using chew cards.
