Following on from the work of Predator Free Ngaio we set up Predator Free Ngaio Reserves in July 2017. We have a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Wellington City Council that provides the guidelines for our trapping. The Council has provided the trap maps along with the traps and we provide the volunteers who check and reset them. The trapping records are shared with the Council. We are currently trapping in eight reserves across the suburb and have plans for three more. Often these are small pockets of wilderness that are not readily accessible and have proven to be very rat friendly. In four months we have removed near 200 rodents with one reserve averaging eight per trap! It has also highlighted areas in the suburb that had often gone unnoticed or uncared for.
